Locker is out for 6-8 weeks at QB, but will be playing defense. Ty said so in his presser today

Huh, ? Did Locker sustain a injuy that prevents his play at qb but he can still contribute on defense. Sounds alittle contradictory, unless it was a finger or thumb on his throwing hand.

Thats a tough loss for U Dub. He was their entire team. That will make that game significantly better for us.

What are the odds that Ty is even still there by Oct 25th? They can't be good. It is obviously a matter of when, not if.

Not good if he plays Locker on defense, imo.
Notredomer, are you serious about this scenario? I know he broke his throwing hand thumb, but I don't see him playing defense.

at the press conference, Willingham is actually quoted saying that Locker is a talented athlete that needs to be on the field and that he MAY consider using him in another position. Says he's capable of playing "about 7 or 8 different positions."
i think it's the craziest thing i've ever heard...playing your star QB at a different position...hell, you could argue that's how he got hurt in the first place. he was making a block on a defender (i think it was on a reverse or misdirection).

They need to get him out of there quickly or they will be losing recruits fast. Well...has he recruited?

They do have six commits now which is a lot better than what they had two months ago at this time, which was zero. According to Rivals, they have one 4*, two 3*, one 2*, and two with no stars. That gives Ty a 2.0 average star ranking for the six. The one 4* is a legit player. He is the #1 recruit from the state of Washington, in the Rivals 100, and according to them the #8 DT prospect in the class. The only reason Ty was able to get him though is he is a lifelong Husky fan from Seattle. Also this kid is probably banking on Ty getting fired anyway, if for some bizarre reason he is not, I would not be surprised if he changed his mind. Any legitimate talent who is possibly looking at the NFL down the road would be insane to be part of what Washington is going to be like if they continue to retain Ty.

Wow, I'm almost at a loss for words on this one. Ty, Ty, Ty.... figure it out, man. He is burying himself for his next job, and it isn't if, its when he has to find one. Whats he expecting Locker to do? I'm not saying he isn't a great athlete, but you just don't switch him over. These guys need multiple reps at there designated positions. I mean we are talking Locker NEEDS SURGERY on his THROWING HAND! Why would you risk any further damage to it, so you can win 2 games this year? This sounds like a desperate move by a desperate coach. Actually you know this sounds like, lack of depth on your team. How does that happen you wonder? Ask any of us ND fans, its called recruiting and Ty has never heard of that word.

Speak of the devil. Down to 5 commits as the lone 4* in the class decides not to wait to see whether Ty gets fired and has de-committed.
Coleman de-commits (http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/huskiesfb/archives/149955.asp)

Coleman de-commits
And from the "When it rains, it pours" department, Garfield High defensive tackle Deandre Coleman has renegged on his oral commitment to play for the Huskies, RealDawg.com is reporting.
Coleman is the state's top recruit and No. 8 tackle nationally. He told the site, "I still like Washington. My family and I just decided that I should look at other schools to make sure this was the right choice."
"I haven't had a winning season in my four years in high school. I want to win at the next level and have a successful career," Coleman told the site. He may take official visits to Oregon, LSU, California and Arizona.
Coleman committed in August.

Two classic lines in there. "When it rains, it pours", deluge is more like it, and Coleman's, "I haven't had a winning season in my four years in high school. I want to win at the next level and have a successful career." OUCH!
The only reason I can think of for UDub not canning Ty's ass right now is for fear of the wrath of John Saunders. LOL

I'd be more worried of the RRReeverrenddd Jesse Jack-sonnnn or Al Sharpton picketing UW and calling them racist!!!

Wow stout words from the DT. Who can blame him? I know I sure don't, especially if you haven't won in highschool.
One question for everybody here.
Does Ty survive the season?
I say no.
I think UW needs to act soon. Might as well act sooner rather than later so maybe they can salvage a recruiting class.

Nate- why would you care that strongly, unless you are a UW fan? Let them deal w their own mess that they created by buying into the media sh*& storm of Ty being run out unfairly from ND. It definately won't help anyone in the ND family to be calling for his head. Let them take out their own &*$^*&%. Otherwise, we will only be called self-serving no matter how obvious it may be.

Washington is going 0-12 this year. ND will beat UDub by four scores. We will still have made a mistake to fire Ty. That's just how it goes. Washington could lose to a Pop Warner team, and ND could go 12-1, win a BCS Bowl game, and Charlie will still be a bum. I could care less what Ty does because it won't change any media perspective. ND will always be racist for firing a black head coach no matter how poor of a coach he was.

Irish Grizz, I don't care. It is a Washington thread so I thought I would ask just to see what some think here. I for one am not calling for his head, all I said was "No, I don't think he will survive the season" and explained why I thought that. I don't give a damn what they do.

BTW, Willingham never said that Locker would be playing defence, just that there are other positions that he could potentially play with his skillset. It's Locker himself who's been pushing the agenda of playing safety or somewhere else. Based on further comments later on in the week, it seems unlikely that the coaches would play him at another position while he recovers.
... all I said was "No, I don't think he will survive the season" and explained why I thought that. ...
Yes, you did. And no, he won't.
Lionel is germaine to this site as a current ND opponent HC, as a former ND HC, and his lack of impact on college football recruiting (which has a large following on this site).
He's a career losing coach 76-80-1. He's in his 14th Div 1 season and this will be his 7th one with a losing record. He's faced tough scheduling at UW and ND (2 of 5 NCAA Div 1 teams that have not played a 1 AA team) but still has managed to lose many more times than expected.
His recruiting at UW has been even more dismal than it was at ND. There is no relief in sight. Optimistically UW's future, at best, looks like the ND '07 season. More probably, 1-2 wins a season.
CoachesHotSeat.com predicted UW to go 6-6 in '08. They correctly predicted an 0-3 start with losses to ORE, BYU, and OU. They predicated UW win then win 4 straight against SU (a loss), AZ, ORES, and ND. Then losses to USC and ASU, wins over UCLA and WSU and a loss to CAL to close the season. Even with Locker that was a Kool-Aid prediction. Athlon predicated a 2 win season SU (already a loss) and WSU.
Locker is a talented athlete. He was an All-State DB in HS. At 6-3, 220+ he could play Safety or OLB and be an improvement over UW's material IF he was healthy. He could probably play WR or even TE, IF he was healthy but how would he tackle or catch a ball with a thumb taped against his hand?
His injury is expected to keep him out 6-8 weeks. A struggling UCLA is 7 weeks out on the UW schedule with WSU the following week. Prudence would dicate sitting Locker out and getting him healthy for maybe the only win of the year against either UCLA or WSU rather than put him on the field to try and make one handed catches or one arm tackles and risk a more serious injury. The only benefit would be to make a bad defense a little closer to mediocre.
Actually prudence might sit Locker for the year. But desperate coaches in desperate times do desperate things. Playing Locker injured at another position would be a worse coaching decision than punting from your opponent's 30 yard line.
