The only teams with more than 5 top 100 verbals? Ohio State, USC, and Notre Dame :).
I don't know if they can hold on to the top spot, but if they decide to "floor it" by not taking many/any 5th years, we stand a fighting chance. Its a longshot, but this could be the "perfect storm".

We've had two top 10 classes, adding a top 5 to that will mean some nice talent to work with.

ND will likley end up with a top 3 on Scout and a top 5 on Rivals (well that's assuming rivals doesn't tank ND recruits like there acustomed to doing at the end)

It's still early, but this can only be encouraging.

I really see USC taking #1 with FSU, ND, OSU, and Miami rounding out the top 5 when it's all said and done. Miami will lock down Northwestern HS like Florida locked down Lakeland last year. Other top 5 possibles will Georgia, and Oklahoma, but with 3 top 10 recruiting classes in a row means we'll finally have some depth to compete with the USC's in the 4th quarter.

All I know is if we can get the guys we need (Sabino, Filer, Patchan or Page, Baldwin, Floyd, Butler, Brown and Forston) I wont even mind if Scout ranks us #6!

It's not about who has the tip top class, but what they do with what they do get. I would rather have the one or two elite guys and the other great prospects (Ethan Johnson, McDonald, Fleming, Cwynar) that can work within the frame work set by CW and CB, than 6 elite guys with major attitude. What is college football for but to learn more and hone your skills. I'm sorry, but with very few exceptions, do you ever see these guys come in a dominate right off the bat. There is a learning curve!!! If the kid is willing to come in and really learn what the heck is happening on the field...you have a solid guy for 2 to 3 years. The big time attitude guys come in play two years and then say see ya....frankly that shows a lack of respect for program that paid your way in the first place.

NDGirlz coming on strong! Hard to disagree with what ya say. I do prefer a system guy that is of quality, than a home run hitter who is on his way out before practice starts.

Thanks Stoney! I realize that the top flight guys are great...but you also have to weed through them to find the one's, like Ethan Johnson, who understand that you can't depend on football being your profession for the next 15 years. If we could get guys that see the bigger picture of life than the one's that say "all I need is football," then I'm all for it. Alas, as society goes so does the metality of our youth. I guess I'm saying that we need the guys that look towards their future and not the guys that say their future is now.

To me, the guys that are sold on ND, and not just CW/CB, are the ones who stick through thick and thin. Working hard, on field and off, are the tools they need to both play and succeed in life. ZF, it seems, was more in tune with playing time, than an ND education/experience. Not saying he did wrong, but I don't think that I would leave just because I wasn't the top guy this year.

If we get any of the remaining players on our list, we will have a top 5 team for sure. i just dont see CW filling out on scholarships of 3* players

We're definitely in no position to start making offers, ATM. But, I can see an offer or two going out if WR is still open.
BTW, Welcome aboard.

i think it is pertinent to keep in mind that the kids ND is recruiting under CW are already planning on football in the NFL to some extent. Finding yourself at the bottom of the position chart at ND versus the #1 guy at another school has to seem disheartening. Plus there are lots of good schools providing a great education to all of its student athletes. I dont think it is fair to criticize any student for wanting to play and not sit on the bench.
That being said, i am glad of the competition at the positions. Depth will not be an issue in the near future.

thanks. i follow the recruiting business pretty hard core. i think that CW will save scholarships rather than extend some to people that are not on the top of his list. That will allow some to stay for a 5th year if necessary. Also that being said, if a 5* wants on board i think CW would have to be willing to sacrifice a 4th year non-starter for the recruit.
